Bulletin 1 ========== W mass workshop, Milano, March 17-18, 2009 Scientific program ------------------ Scheduled talks by the different groups (both theoretical and experimental) will be the starting point of the discussion on the different topics. We are planning to schedule short talks (20 minutes), so that everybody can become aware of the different codes/tools/calculations, which are presently available, and of what is used for the data analysis. However, we would like to ask all the speakers when preparing this talk to keep in mind that it is meant to be a starting point of a discussion among experts, i.e. it should not be a canonical conference talk. Besides a concise status (and limitation) of the code/tool/calculation/analysis, we suggest that the presenter also includes a discussion of the most urgent/critical questions he/she thinks should be addressed at this workshop. At the moment we have scheduled 5 hours of talks according to the following tentative schedule: March 17th ========== 9.00-10.40 SANC, HORACE, WGRAD, S.Dittmaier, A.Mueck 10.40-11.10 coffee break 11.10-11.50 2 experimental talks 11.50-12.30 discussion 12.30-14.00 lunch break 14.00-16.00 discussion/work 16.00-16.30 coffee break 16.30-18.30 discussion/work 20.00 workshop dinner March 18th ========== 9.00-10.00 ResBos, M.Grazzini, NNPDF 10.00-10.30 discussion 10.30-11.00 coffee break 11.00-11.40 2 experimental talks 11.40-12.30 discussion 12.30-14.00 lunch break 14.00-16.00 discussion of the workshop report/work to be done 16.00-16.30 coffee break 16.30-18.30 discussion of the workshop report/work to be done During the next weeks before the workshop, we would like to prepare for the discussion sessions by starting collecting questions and topics that we consider relevant, unclear, urgent in some sense. To this aim we invite you to prepare a list of your questions/topics and to send it to Alessandro, who will post them on the workshop webpage. Having the "urgent questions" on the webpage and discussing them in advance with your group/colleagues will be an excellent warm-up for the meeting and hopefully will help to make it more useful to all of us. Finally, we would like to suggest to produce a workshop report with the final outcome of the workshop and a collection of results of "homework" we assign to ourselves during the meeting. We hope that the workshop can help to improve the understanding of the extraction of the W mass and of the determination of its theoretical error. Webpage -------- We think that it could be useful to have at hand references and links to papers/notes/codes that we consider important for the discussion. We already provided some information on the workshop webpage at http://wwwteor.mi.infn.it/~vicini/scienprogr.html Please have a look to check that these links are correct or need to be updated. Also, please let Alessandro know of any other relevant information that in your opinion should be linked to the workshop webpage. Logistics --------- Lunches and the workshop dinner will be paid by the University of Milano. Please, let us know in case you have special dietary restrictions. Finally, please send us the macaddresses of your wireless and ethernet cards, so that we can start the authentication and save some time during the workshop.
